MES is a licensed MSHA Contractor.

MES maintains written safety policies and provides, via outside contractors, formal safety training including:

• 40 hour MSHA new miner training
• 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training
• 8-hour annual refresher training, when applicable.

MES has a strict Drug and Alcohol policy which provides for testing pre-employment, post-accident or incident, upon probable cause, or for any reason or no reason. An additional overlapping testing program is also performed in accordance with DOT regulations for personnel who hold Commercial Driver's Licenses.

An important part of MES' safety record is the focus on a culture of Job Safety Analysis - training people to think about "What are the hazards and what could go wrong?". This philosophy, together with insistence on procedural compliance, is passed down and reinforced from the top through supervision via documented safety meetings - for some projects each day.
