MES has performed numerous rock bolting, soil nailing, and shotcrete stabilization projects for mining and civil applications. Several examples are listed below.

Highwall Repair - San Juan Coal Mine, Farmington, NM

MES was contracted to perform repairs to a deteriorating shotcrete and rockbolt-stabilized highwall. MES used its own mining engineer and miners to perform repairs using high-lift equipment, and was assisted by subcontractor Rock and Co., who provided a team of rope access specialists for areas which could not otherwise be accessed.

US 40 Cribwall Replacement Project – Berthoud Pass, CO

MES provided extensive soil-nailing, approximately 9000 square feet of shotcreting, and rock bolting design-build services to stabilize the downslope roadway edge where there were near-vertical cuts of up to 45 feet. Ms. Linda Moran was the Project manager for the Berthoud Pass / US-40 Crib Wall replacement project.

CDOT directed MES to perform extensive additional work during project, including grouting of void zones under the roadway and concrete structural demolition by blasting.

MES used civil engineering consultant, Merline VanDyke, P.E. working with in-house engineers to design the stabilization for the failing section of US

Emergency Scaling and Blasting – Cresson Mine Pit, Teller County, CO

MES was called on an emergency basis on a Friday evening to assist with a potential rockfall hazard to workers in the pit which had led to a shutdown of production. By Sunday, MES had written a work plan and had it approved by the client's safety and operations departments and the Mine Safety and Health Administration to perform high scaling and blasting to using a rope crew, and began work on Monday morning, completing the work with a blast on Tuesday to allow production to resume at the mine.

Harvey's Casino Rockfall Repair – Blackhawk, CO

Removal of rockfall from failed slope behind casino. Rock slope stabilization and shotcreting in a confined space area approximately 150’ long and 60’ high, behind the existing casino, using underground mining methods.

Retaining Wall - Climax Mine, Lake County, CO

MES was contracted to construct a concrete block gravity wall for slope stabilization at this permitted mine site.
