MES has routinely been called-in by excavation contractors to perform blasting work for development in emerging areas along the Colorado Front Range, and has successfully performed hundreds of these shots without serious incident. The following are highlights of these services which have been performed for public and larger corporate clients. US Highway 6 Rockfall Mitigation, near Blackhawk, CO MES, as subcontractor to Rock and Company, prime to Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), performed consulting and blasting services for the removal of a large rock pinnacle (est. 100 Tons) which was discovered to be hanging above US Highway 6. Operations were performed by crane basket, while the highway was closed. MES successfully completed the blasting, meeting all requirements. The key shot was attended by a large contingent of CDOT management and engineering staff, and was televised by KUSA Channel 9 news. Taylor River Road Sliver Cuts, Gunnison County, CO Under Mr. Eric Zeller’s oversight as Project Engineer for the FHWA's Taylor River road project, MES performed very technical sliver cut blasting work. This included rock sculpting intensely jointed rock to a natural appearance through this environmentally sensitive part of the Gunnison National Forest. This work included precision blasting to within 24 inches of fiber optic lines, under continuous surveillance each day by Fiberwatch personnel, with QWEST management and cable splicing crew on site for the first few critical shots. The work was completed without any facility damage. Gateway Park Access Road Blasting – Colorado State Highway #14, CO MES completed very technical blasting within close proximity to critical facilities under the oversight of Mr. Jason Stutzman as Project Engineer for the City of Ft. Collins. MES performed this work as a specialty subcontractor to Duran Excavating, prime to the City of Ft. Collins. This work included blasting to within 25 feet of a large concrete water storage tank, with blast plans and procedures and initial blasting under the oversight of Gordon Revey, P.E.., as consultant to the Owner. Additionally, the work required slope sculpting of the final slopes using to achieve a natural appearance using precision blasting methods. Gilpin County High School Utility Blasting, Gilpin County, CO MES performed precision blasting services for utility trenches in close proximity to the existing high school building. After two other blasting firms were dismissed, MES was hired on a $30K T&M contract. MES completed initially assigned work at 50% of budget and then was given $230K additive change order to construct wastewater treatment absorption system, including blasting, excavation, piping, etc. Blackhawk Water Line – Gilpin County, CO MES was called in to perform pipeline trench blasting at the #2 booster station. The work MES performed was sensitive because it was above and adjacent to I-70. |
